Former Serie A referee Paolo Tagliavento has been confirmed as the new team manager of Serie C side Ternana.
Tagliavento officiated in Serie A for 14 years and was a FIFA and UEFA referee between 2007 and 2017, before retiring in May.
“Ternana Calcio are delighted to announce the entry of Mr. Paolo Tagliavento into its senior management,” read a statement on the Rossoverde’s official website.
“A former international referee (221 matches in Serie A, 28 in the Champions League and 32 in Europa League), and Rossoverde fan, he has always been a profound connoisseur of Italian and European football.
“Tagliavento immediately established a positive relationship with the club, especially with President Stefano Ranucci, with whom mutual esteem immediately emerged, as well as so much of an shared vision that the former referee accepted the role of team manager.
“The role will see him committed 360° to various corporate and technical fields.”
Tagliavento, who turns 46 in September, was born in Terni – where the club are based, although they were relegated from Serie B last season.
Despite his career as an international referee, he controversially testified during the Calciopoli scandal in 2006.
Critics also accused him of being pro-Juve after he disallowed Muntari’s goal during the Bianconeri’s 1-1 draw with Milan in February 2012 and came under fire for his role as fourth official in their match against Inter towards the end of the season.
