The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the resumption of its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise within the Greater Accra Region, a week after the process was suspended following the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The exercise is set to restart on Thursday, 20th November, 2025.
In a press release issued and signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations at Burma Camp, GAF stated that the screening process will now be conducted across five locations, with eight sub-centres created to ensure a smoother and safer exercise.
These centres include:
1.El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
2.Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres
3.Air Force Base, Burma Camp
4.Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres
5.Eastern Naval Command, Tema
According to GAF, all qualified applicants will be processed in batches of 600 and will receive SMS notifications specifying their reporting dates, batches, and designated centres.
Applicants have also been advised to regularly check the recruitment portal for updates. Anyone who does not receive an SMS by Thursday, 20 November is encouraged to call the helplines provided for assistance.
The Armed Forces cautioned families and friends not to accompany potential recruits to the screening centres to reduce congestion, stressing that non-applicants will not be allowed entry.
Meanwhile, the Board of Inquiry established to investigate the circumstances surrounding last week’s deadly stampede is continuing its work.
To promote transparency, GAF has replaced the entire Greater Accra recruitment team. Commodore FA Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko, and Colonel GB Eduah have taken over as Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower, and Director Information Technology respectively.
GAF assured the public that anyone found culpable after the inquiry will be sanctioned appropriately.
The release further expressed the Armed Forces’ deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to families of the deceased, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
All injured persons will continue receiving free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until full recovery. Additionally, GAF announced a special recruitment package for all injured persons after recovery, as well as support for bereaved families.
The statement reiterated GAF’s reliance on public cooperation as the recruitment exercise resumes.
