Sports pundit and coach Christopher Nimley has claimed that Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and that the government is funding the Ghana Premier League (GPL) under the guise of a partnership with Adesa Productions.
Speaking on Happy Sports, Nimley urged transparency regarding the sponsorship arrangement, insisting that public funds are being used to support the league.
“They should tell us the truth — Kurt Okraku is an NDC member, and the GPL is being sponsored by the government. If Kurt says he went to look for sponsorship, I can’t vehemently call him a liar, but they can’t use taxpayers’ money to sponsor Kurt Okraku and lie to the people of Ghana. The government should be careful how they handle things,” Nimley stated.
His remarks follow the recent announcement by the GFA president, Kurt Okraku during the association’s 31st Ordinary Congress at Prampram that the Ghana Premier League winner for the 2025/26 season will receive GH₵2 million, while a total of GH₵9.5 million will be distributed among clubs based on their final standings , from first to fifteenth place, with the bottom three receiving nothing.
Prior to this, the GFA unveiled a deal with Adesa Productions, which handles the league’s packaging and distribution. Under the arrangement, each club is to receive GH₵1 million before the season ends.
