The Vice-President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mark Addo has defended the FA’s decision to hold Congress on September 1 despite the landmark case which awaits the FA on its case against Wilfred Osei Kwaku.
The Court for Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is expected to announce the ruling in the case between Wilfred Osei Kwaku and the GFA on September 1.
The verdict could shake the foundations of Ghana football should it go in favor of Wilfred Osei Kwaku who is seeking for a re-election after being disqualified from contesting the 2019 GFA presidential election by the Normalisation Committee.
The CAS ruling on the matter has been postponed twice and with a new date for the ruling set for September 1, there have been calls for the GFA to postpone Congress to a later date by some of its members.
According to Mark Addo, work must still go on as the two interested parties await the CAS ruling on September 1.
“To be honest that was least of our consideration when setting the date for the Congress. It was based on the timing and readiness in making sure that everything is in line. The day September 1 just happened”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“The CAS ruling was never considered as part of the decision to hold the Congress on September 1. What guarantees us that the decision will even come out on September 1 because the last time it didn’t, so work must still go on”, he added.
The GFA has announced that Congress will be held on September 1 at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence, Prampram.
