GFA Elections: Ongoing electoral processes are illegal – Lawyer

The legal battle surrounding the 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections took another twist as Lawyer Kwame Quayson, representing King Faisal FC, asserted that all ongoing electoral processes were illegal due to a standing court injunction. This revelation comes amidst a contentious struggle for control within the GFA.

In an interview with Happy FM, Lawyer Kwame Quayson emphasized, “There is an injunction on the elections, so every electoral process going on is illegal. The Ghana Football Association is not the property of any individual; it is run by laws that must be obeyed. The court hearing has been adjourned yet again so we don’t have a choice but to wait.”

The Elections Committee, in response to the court injunction obtained by King Faisal, a club relegated from the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League, released a roadmap for the elections scheduled for October 5.

King Faisal’s injunction is rooted in a call for a bottom-up approach to the elections, advocating for the election of district-level leaders before top officials are chosen, thus challenging the traditional top-down structure of the GFA.

The Accra High Court, which has been handling the case, has once again postponed the hearing of the injunction application against the 2023 Ghana Football Association’s elections to September 28, 2023.
