GFA Normalisation Committee launches Men’s Special Competition

The Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), on Monday evening, officially launched a special football tournament which is set to commence on March 30, 2019.

The launch of the competition which was held at the forecourt of the GFA Secretariat also saw the official unveiling of the competition logo in the presence of the media, club representatives, Hon. Alex Agyekum, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, and GHALCA Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo among others.

Dr. Amoah also stated that the competition will be “used to test the reforms that will be brought on board as well as the rapid adjudication of cases”.

The competition is to revive domestic football competition in Ghana after a 9-month hiatus since the Anas Number 12 exposé.

President of the Normalisation Committee (NC) Dr. Kofi Amoah announced the participation fees to be paid to players and the prize money at each stage of the tournament.

Each club will receive GHS 300,000 as participation fee.

Tier 1 (Premier League clubs)
Winners – GHS 200,000
Runner up – GHS 100,000 cedis

Tier 2 clubs ( Division One)
Winner – GHS 150,000
Runner up – GHS 80,000

Round of 32
Clubs to get GHS 50,000

Round 16 – GHS 60,000

Quarter final – GHS 80,000

Sixty-two (62) clubs have confirmed their participation with the exemption of Premier League side ‘Wa All Stars’ and Division One side ‘New Edubiase’.

Winner of the first tier of the competition will represent Ghana at the next CAF Champions League competition while the winner of the knock-out stage will represent Ghana at the next Confederation Cup competition.
