The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has declared the government of Ghana’s support for the proclamation of the year 2022 as the International Year of the Basic Sciences for Development.

Representing Ghana at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Executive Board 207th Session in Paris-France, the minister made known that, “We are also co-sponsors of the proposed International Day of Mathematics. In that context, the Ghana delegation supports Item 45 on the proclamation of the year 2022 as the International Year of the Basic Sciences for Development.”

He further called on all member states of the United Nations to join the agenda in voting for the year 2022 to be set aside to celebrate Basic Sciences for Development.

This agenda falls in line with the sustainable development goal number four (4) which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
