The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Lu Kun, expressed his enthusiasm for Ghana as an attractive destination for Chinese investments during the opening ceremony of the 2023 China Higher Education Exhibition.

The event hosted at the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana a (CIUG), on Thursday, October 12, 2023 marked a significant milestone for educational and economic cooperation between Ghana and China.

“I’ve been moved by the hospitality of the Ghanaian people. Today you can see the presence of several entreprenueurs and companies from China. A proven testament that Ghana is very attractive to Chinese investments,” he said.

He continued, “Ghana and China have always been good friends, good brothers and good partners. Although we may have different political systems and economic developments, history and culture, the two countries adhere to the principles of mutual respect.”

He further encouraged students from the University of Ghana and other Ghanaian institutions to seize the opportunity and apply for scholarships offered by the China Scholarship Council.

He urged them with the famous quote, “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books,” highlighting the transformative potential of international education experiences.

This exhibition also the first of its kind in the Sub-Sahara region, brought together 24 prestigious Chinese universities, leading Chinese companies, including Infinix, and numerous entrepreneurial minds eager to explore new opportunities in Ghana.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of key figures, including Prof. Nii Arday Codjoe, the Provost of the College of Education at the University of Ghana, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo. Also in attendance was Nana Barfuor from the Ministry of Education, representing the Minister, as well as executives from the China Scholarship Council in Ghana.

In addition to fostering educational ties, the exhibition also marked the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, further cementing the strong bond between Ghana and China.

The 2023 China Higher Education Exhibition served as a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and fostering stronger economic and educational partnerships between the two nations.

Ghana’s appeal for Chinese investments has been highlighted by H.E. Lu Kun, affirming a promising future of cooperation and mutual growth between the two countries.
