The President of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr.Frank Ankobiah, has divulged that the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) is committed to fighting the Coronavirus by equipping health workers with the necessary education and tools to fight the disease.

Speaking in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he disclosed the steps that the GMA has taken and he stated that the Association is focused more on education especially with health workers.

“We have met with the Government. We have a lot of committees related to Coronavirus. We have taken steps towards isolation procedures. We have prepared our budgets which includes training and we have presented it to Government. Our focus is more on education. We want to embark on an education campaign and training of health workers,” he said.

He however noted that to achieve this, the Government must come to the Association’s aid with funding. “As medical workers we want to fight the disease but we need protection so, we appeal that part of the money should be allocated to the necessary equipment for protection whilst we fight the disease”, he added.

He also urged Ghanaians to move away from criticizing or blaming Government on what it could have done better and focus on what each person can do to fight the disease.

“This is not the time to scrutinize or blame people for not doing certain things right. The disease is already with us. How are we confronting it? Let’s take that and then we can later go back and do all the needed analysis. We all have a responsibility so let’s discuss how we can overcome this disease. We will have all the time to discuss what we did right and what we didn’t do right later on.”

On Sunday, March, 15th, 2020, the Government of Ghana in a press briefing announced that four more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Ghana bringing the total number of reported cases to six. The Government stated that three of the cases were recorded in Accra while one was recorded in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
