The Ghana Navy has intercepted ten Nigerian nationals who attempted to stow away on a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, Grand Venus, off the coast of Tema.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Navy on Monday, November 3, the operation took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, following a distress call from the vessel. The Grand Venus was located about eight nautical miles southeast of Tema when naval officers effected the arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the stowaways had boarded the vessel clandestinely while it was docked at Lagos Port in Nigeria.
The Navy escorted the vessel and the arrested individuals to the Tema Harbour, where they were handed over to relevant authorities, including the Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service, and Marine Police, for further investigation.
The Ghana Navy assured the public of its commitment to maintaining maritime security along the country’s coastline and said additional details will be provided as investigations progress.
