Ghana Tourism Authority inaugurates 5-member Audit Committee

A five-member Audit Committee for the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has been inaugurated to ensure prudent financial management and adherence to public financial management regulations in accordance to the Public Finance Management Act 2016 (Act 921).
The committee was inaugurated by the Chairperson of GTA’s Board; Madam Adelaide Ahwireng on Wednesday; 16th May 2018 at the Headquarters of the GTA.
The Audit Committee is chaired by Mr. Andy Opoku-Agyeman of the National Petroleum Authority and also a representative of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA). Other members of the committee are Mark Ofori-Amanfo of the Internal Audit Agency, Gorkel Obro-Abibo of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), Dr Noris Hammar of the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources (Mineral Development Fund) and Cecilia Sheitu Nyadia of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations ministry.
Speaking at the Inauguration, Ag. Director General of IAA, Ransford Agyei advised the members of the committee to perform their mandate as expected and live up to expectation. He said, “the Audit Committee is very important in the governance of this Authority and require the support of management and all key stakeholders to execute its statutory mandate. I’m hopeful the audit committee will live up to expectation.”
Section 86 of the Public Finance Management Act 2016 (Act 921) requires that, every government institution establishes an audit committee. Members of the Committee are to be in office for a period not exceeding two years and are eligible for re-appointment but not more than two terms.
