The Ghana U20 Women’s national team, known as the Black Princesses, triumphed with a 3-0 win over their Guinea Bissau counterparts in the second half of the game on a Saturday afternoon. This encounter marked the second leg of the Round 2 African qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The thrilling match unfolded at the Accra Sports Stadium, where the Black Princesses fought tenaciously to seal their place in the next round with a commanding 6-0 aggregate victory over Guinea Bissau.
From the outset, Ghana launched relentless attacks into the opponent’s box, coming close to scoring in the 3rd minute. However, a momentary miscommunication among the players led to the shot veering wide of the target. Just a minute later, goalkeeper Afi Amenyaku was called into action to make a crucial save from a Guinea Bissau cross.
The early part of the game saw Ghana controlling proceedings, but around the 30th minute, they experienced a lapse in their play, misplacing passes and allowing Guinea Bissau to dictate the tempo.
In the 41st minute, Faiza Abdul Rashid found the net for Ghana after the Guinea Bissau goalkeeper mishandled the ball in the box. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed due to an infringement.
The second half saw Ghana on the offensive, relentlessly pursuing the game’s first goal. Tracy Twum finally broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, giving Ghana the lead. The team extended their advantage in the 59th minute when Wasiima Mohammed headed in a goal from a corner kick delivered by Success Ameyaa.
Ghana’s third and final goal came in the 82nd minute, courtesy of Helen Alormenu’s precise finish.
The Black Princesses will now face Eswatini in the third round of qualifiers, as they continue their quest for a spot in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
