The Prestea Magistrate Court has remanded two men into prison custody after they were accused of stealing GHC 1.2 million from Dr. Alex Yaw Baako, the Assembly Member for the Prestea Himan Electoral Area, widely known as Nana Aboroso.

The suspects, identified as Clement Baako and Issifu Razak, appeared before His Worship Iddi Adama and pleaded guilty to charges of stealing.

According to Chief Inspector Larweh, the lead prosecutor on the case, investigations are still ongoing. The court initially remanded the two for three weeks, and following a subsequent appearance, extended the remand by an additional two weeks.

They are expected to reappear in court on June 24, 2025.

The incident has shocked many residents in Prestea, with widespread concern over the magnitude of the theft and high public interest in the court proceedings. Meanwhile, Hon. Alex Yaw Baako has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter.

Authorities are continuing efforts to trace the missing funds as the investigation unfolds.
