Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) as part of its themed month series has dedicated the month of September to the celebration of the culture of Ghana and all other things made in Ghana.

GMABC throughout the month of September will dedicate all its media outlets (e.TV Ghana, Happy 98.9 FM, Y 107.9 FM-Accra, Y 102.5 FM-Kumasi and Y 97.9 FM–Takoradi) and online platforms to educate and create awareness on the huge significance of patronizing locally manufactured products and services and also on the need to remind ourselves, especially the youth of the heritage we have inherited.

This year’s GMABC Made in Ghana Month themed “Celebrating Ghana through digital innovations” will also provide the avenue for GMABC to exemplify the role cultural activities play in the development of Ghana.

At the official launch of the Made in Ghana Month, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Alliance (GMA), Mr. Ernest Boateng explaining the rationale behind the made in Ghana month said, “The Made In Ghana Month is a campaign that seeks to encourage Ghanaians to patronize all things Ghana (food, clothes, language, businesses) and other locally produced items.

The campaign will run throughout the month of September with a series of activities such as webinars, promotion of local content (music & movies), a look at the economic impact of local businesses, Ghanaian food and sense of fashion and the most exciting aspect, will be when we mark the International Tourism Day with tours to the various tourist sites in the country and evaluate the economic impact tourism has on Ghana.”

He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has in a way showed Ghanaians that we can be self-reliant and support our own and applauded the Ghanaian populace for their efforts. “When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Ghana, we would have faced some problems if we did not start to produce ‘Hand Sanitizers’, ‘Nose Masks’ and invent the ‘Veronica Bucket’. With local production, we were able to put in place these simple processes when the world experienced their shortages.”

The special guest of honour for the launch was highlife legend and president of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar who was happy to be a part of the GMABC Made in Ghana month reminded the audience that the cultural product of Ghana is mainly our food and music and “that is why it is important to spend your money on made in Ghana goods. Spending your money on made in Ghana goods and services makes Ghana richer.”

The music legend asked Ghanaians to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat which is headquartered in Ghana to promote all things Ghana. “Africa is one of the biggest markets in the world and we have to get ready to prepare our Ghanaian products to take advantage of the market. With the AfCFTA headquartered in Ghana now, we should take advantage of that.”

“We should appreciate our locally made goods and also drum it into the minds of Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana and make us great,” he added.

In promoting the made in Ghana agenda, the country’s first producer of alkaline water which provides one with stronger bones and doubles as a detoxifier, Abova Natural Mineral Water has joined the sailing ship of the GMABC Made in Ghana month. With the support Ghana agenda at heart, producers of the local and tasty Yaa Babie Rice and the Sankofa Natural Spices brands have joined GMABC to promote and celebrate the made in Ghana month.
