As part of its flagship ECO Motion Campaign, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has embarked on a tree planting exercise at Aggrey Road 2 Junior High School and St. John Bosco R/C School in the Tema Metropolis.

The exercise also saw the official launch of the GNPC ECO Club at Aggrey Road 2 JHS, aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the trees planted while instilling a culture of environmental stewardship in the younger generation.

Mrs. Joana A.P Mensah, Headmistress of Aggrey Road 2 JHS, commended GNPC for its initiative, describing it as timely and impactful:

“This project is a major boost to our existing school garden initiative. Beyond beautifying our campus, it teaches our students responsibility, care for the environment, and the importance of sustainability,” she said.

The event also featured an interactive session led by Miss Nina Antwi-Yeboah of GNPC’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Department, who educated members of the newly inaugurated club on practical ways to nurture and protect the trees.

“Tree planting is just the beginning. True environmental change comes when we learn to care for what we plant. I commend St. John Bosco School for maintaining the trees we planted last year and encourage Aggrey Road 2’s ECO Club members to follow that example,” Miss Antwi-Yeboah noted.

Mr. Famous Kofi Ayivor, GNPC’s Manager of Corporate Communication, emphasized the Corporation’s long-term commitment to sustainability and to nurturing young leaders who will drive Ghana’s green agenda:

“The GNPC ECO Clubs are not symbolic, they are practical steps towards grooming the next generation of environmental stewards. We will continue to visit these clubs, share care tips, and monitor the growth of the trees while also investing in the academic and personal development of the students” Mr. Ayivor said.

In recognition of their dedication, Mr. Frank Teye and Madam Beauty Korkor Akotia were applauded for their exemplary roles as Patrons of the schools’ environmental clubs.

The GNPC ECO Motion Campaign continues to reflect the Corporation’s strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, climate action, and sustainability.
