#GOCDecidesonHappyFM: Mawuko Afadzinu reveals why GOC has struggled to attain sponsorship

The Ghana Table Tennis president, Mawuko Afadzinu, says the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has been unable to attract sponsorship from the Corporate world largely because of the bad governance and scandals that have affected the brand over the years.

He made mention of the Australian Visa scandals, infighting with federations, bad governance among others which has made the GOC unattractive to sponsors over the years.

According to him, a lot of people have run down the GOC over the years and is time to change that narrative when voted into power.

“The problem with the GOC is that we have through our actions and inactions over the years tried to run the brand down be it the Australia scandal, some controversy over governance and others. Our attraction as a partner has diminished to a pathetic low and we have to build it now”, he said at the GOC manifesto dialogue organized by Happy 98.9FM in partnership with GTV on how to secure sponsorship for the Olympic body.

He, however, highlighted some key areas on how he intends to ensure that the GOC secure sponsorship when he gets the nod as the Vice president.

“The character of the GOC now must be the application of the highest level of government which must transcend with the Federations. The GOC must be known for things that are to the goodwill of sports and not the negative ones. We must be able to build goodwill and with my corporate heart we can get the right partnership”, he added.

He assured that with his experience and knowledge in the administration his priority will be getting the right partners and most importantly restoring the image of the GOC.

Mawuko Afadzinu is in contention with Ghana Volleyball President Paul Atchoe for the position.

The GOC election comes off on 15 March 2021.
