#GOCDecidesOnHappyFM: We will source for scholarships for trainable athletes – Charles Osei Asibey

Third Vice Presidential candidate for the Ghana Olympics Committee (GOC), Charles Osei Asibey says it is high time the sports community focuses on the athletes rather than its leadership.

Disclosing his plans for the athletics community if voted to power ahead of the GOC’s general elections on Monday, March 15, 2021, he stated, “For some time now, the concentration has been on leadership but my team and I feel athletes are the reason we as leaders exist”.

Championing the need to develop athletes at all levels, Charles shared that as the Third Vice President for the GOC, he and his team will source for scholarships for trainable athletes, especially in schools within their communities.

Revealing his source of funding for such an ambitious project, the passionate sportsman indicated, “We will source for grants from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and look for training facilities in Africa and the world to develop high performing athletes for Ghana”.

He believes through such training, the country will go back to winning the most eyed medals at the Olympics and raise high the flag of Ghana.
“One of the things we are looking at doing is establishing the GOC academy. If we want to go to the Olympics, then we need to focus on training ahead, say 6 years in advance. We need to prepare for the next Olympics after 2023. We just shouldn’t be focused on this Olympics but the next also”.

Charles Osei Asibey made his submission at the first ever GOC debate dubbed, “Ghana Olympic Committee Manifesto Diialogues” organized by GTV Sports + and Ghana’s recognized radio, Happy98.9FM.
