The government has rolled out a Youth Internship Scheme to tackle unemployment and support the country’s security services.
The Interior Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development, launched the programme to provide practical experience for young Ghanaians while boosting the operations of agencies like the Ghana Police Service, Prisons Service, and Fire Service.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak disclosed the details at the first Government Accountability Series in Accra. He said the scheme aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the job market.
“We’ve signed a memorandum of understanding with the Youth Development Ministry to deploy interns to key security institutions. This initiative will sharpen the skills of our youth and strengthen the manpower of our security services,” he stated.
The Minister confirmed that the first batch of interns will begin their placements on the 16th of this month.
He added that the programme will not only boost job readiness among young people but also help ease the personnel burden on national security institutions.
