The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has officially commissioned a newly completed four-storey, 24-unit apartment block for the Ghana Immigration Service in Savelugu, located in the Northern Region. Constructed by the State Housing Company, the facility is part of a broader initiative to enhance the welfare and living standards of security personnel in the region.
During the commissioning ceremony, Muntaka highlighted that the project originated from a 2016 agreement between the Ghana Immigration Service and the State Housing Company. The goal was to provide dedicated housing for junior-ranked officers stationed at the Tamale International Airport.
He described the completed project as a symbol of government’s continued commitment to supporting the men and women who safeguard the nation’s security. He emphasized that decent accommodation is key to ensuring officers are well-positioned to execute their duties effectively.
Muntaka lauded the State Housing Company for the successful delivery of the project and extended his gratitude to traditional leaders and community members whose support helped bring the vision to life. He also acknowledged the crucial role played by immigration officers in maintaining border security and national safety.
The Acting Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Samuel Basintale Amadu, expressed gratitude to the government for addressing the accommodation needs of the service. He also praised the Interior Minister for his consistent advocacy and support in enhancing the operations of the Service.
In addition to the commissioning, Muntaka performed a sod-cutting ceremony for a second 24-unit residential complex at the same location.
This upcoming facility will include upgraded amenities and cater specifically to senior officers based at the Tamale International Airport.
