The Minority in Parliament has rejected a reduction of the Electronic Transaction levy to 1.5 percent from 1.75 percent.
The latest reduction was tabled during consultations with the minority on Friday after Thursday’s meeting ended inconclusively.
The minority led by its leader Haruna Iddrisu rejected the proposal arguing the reduction is negligible.
According to Star FM, the government has now decided to table the E-Levy bill to the plenary later on Friday for a decision to be taken.
Though the E-Levy is not on the agenda of Parliament this week, Starr News has gathered the move to have it taken on Friday is a result of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to travel to the UAE for a medical review this weekend.
The latest reduction in the fee comes after the Government side led by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta maintained the 1.75% rate during earlier negotiations with the minority.
The position of the Finance Minister got the Minority to question the essence of the engagement in the first place.
The Minority side was led by its leader Haruna Iddrisu, Chief whip Muntaka Mubarak and other leaders.
