The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has honored President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as the prominent force behind Ghana’s thriving tourism sector.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, recounted the strong-willed efforts of the President in revamping the tourism sector. He declared Akufo-Addo as the ‘Father of Tourism’.

Key speaker for the event, Mark Okraku Mantey appreciated the President for championing the Year of Return initiative in 2019, and described the said initiative as the wings on which the Ghana tourism sector rests upon. He mentioned achievements such as December in GH, Beyond The Return and other successful tourism campaigns.

GTA gifted His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with an iconic picture frame of himself at the launch of ‘Year of Return’ in September 2018 at the American Press Club in Washington DC.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, acknowledged the immense impact made by GTA over the years. He noted that the initiatives of GTA have rightfully earned Ghana the title of the ‘Gateway To Africa’. “I applaud the tremendous efforts of the Ghana Tourism Authority, its dedicated staff, led by its dynamic Chief Executive Officer, Akwasi Agyeman and its partners. The milestones achieved in the last few years growth in international arrivals, growth in domestic travels, growth in the number of tourism facilities have set a new standard for excellence, showcasing Ghana as a beacon of hope and a shining example to the world.”

He added that GTA’s Golden Jubilee signifies the unwavering efforts of all staff and stakeholders to uphold the cultural heritage of Ghana over the years and encouraged all staff to look forward to more years of unveiling the potential within Ghana’s tourism sector. “Let us not forget the immeasurable potential that lies ahead; let us continue our unwavering commitment, the sustainable tourism practices, innovation and the preservation of our cultural assets. Together we can navigate the challenges of the future, build a thriving tourism industry and take Ghana to even greater heights; may this momentous occasion serve as a reminder of the beauty and richness that Ghana possesses and may the next fifty years bring even more extraordinary achievements for the Ghana Tourism Authority.”

The GTA staff awards and dinner night 2023, is marked as a night to appreciate and reflect on 50 years of resilience, passion and the ability of like-minded individuals who are determined in proudly uplifting the Ghanaian heritage and controlling the narrative regarding Ghana and Africa at large.
