The National Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, has paid an unannounced working visit to the Bono East Region to assess the implementation of the programme and ensure caterers are meeting expected standards.

The visit, part of her nationwide effort to “reset” and strengthen the School Feeding Programme, is aimed at improving supervision, transparency, and accountability among caterers.

Speaking to the media, Hajia Forgor reaffirmed the Mahama-led NDC government’s commitment to making basic education more attractive and convenient by providing nutritious meals to schoolchildren.

“The government is determined to improve the quality of meals served to our pupils. Caterers must live up to expectations by ensuring that children are well-fed and motivated to stay in school,” she said.

She also reminded caterers that following the recent increase in the feeding grant from ₵1.50 to ₵2.00 per child, they are expected to reflect the change in both food quality and quantity.

The Headmaster of St. Francis De Assisi Catholic School, Agyarko Ntim Kofi Charles, expressed appreciation for the surprise visit, noting that it would keep caterers on their toes and help improve the programme’s impact.

Similarly, Analifori Ayariga, representing local farmers in Asantanso, commended the government’s intention to source food locally, saying it would benefit both children and farming households.

“The programme is helping both pupils and parents. When government buys from local farmers, everyone wins,” he said.
