Ghana’s leading radio station, Happy98.9 FM honoured mothers for their unmatched role in society and the development of children at the Achimota Mall.

This year’s celebration dubbed ‘Read with Mama’ saw lovely children with their amazing mothers walk to the forecourt of the Achimota Mall to spend some quality time on some novels with them.

The atmosphere was blissful as the event captured the attention of an overwhelming crowd as they gathered to show support to passionate mothers around the space.

Programme Manager of Happy98.9 FM, El-Woode Mantey set the tone for the get-together as he introduced the purpose of the gathering.

According to him, mothers are the best people to cultivate the habit of reading in their children. Therefore it was wise to bring forth Happy FM’s ‘Read with Mama’.

“The reason we’re all here today for the ‘Read with Mother’ is simply because we have observed that child ten’s first point of contact in their education is their parents. Commonly, mothers have more affairs than their fathers. The first words they speak are often ‘Mama’ and it is obvious that mothers feed children the most. So we realized that the best people to inculcate the habit of reading into children are mothers,” he said.

Co-Host of Happy98.9 FM’s ‘Happy Morning Show’ Fati Shaibu-Ali took to the seat to read some experts of the book ‘Talata the Child Bride’ while the children enjoyed.

Some children were also called on to read and after, followed the discussion period with questions and answers as Emmanuel Boadi from the Sports team and Joel Sanco from the Public Relations team took turns.

The event was climaxed with music and dance as the children brought out their ‘Slim Buster’ moves.

On her part, Miss Bridget Mensah, the Project Lead and Public Relations Manager with GMABC reiterated the significance of mothers in the educational life of children.

She said, “Mothers are undoubtedly one of the best humans in the world and the role they play towards the development of their children is very crucial. Once in a while, you can spare some time with your children by reading books, and novels to broaden their creativity. It is also advisable to go through their homework before they submit them the next day. I’m very impressed we brought to you ‘Read with Mama’.”
