General Manager for Donewell Insurance Company Limited, Robert Boateng has expressed the importance of drivers being vigilant on the road, especially during festive seasons.

“If we exercise caution on our roads we can reduce road accidents by a big margin,” he stated.

With the impact of road accidents affecting a myriad of people in a big way, Mr. Boateng with this consequence in mind drives at a speed limit if 80KM/H or below, urging road users to drive within speed limits. “As an insurance man I see images of road accidents and the aftermath is scary. Because of that I make sure I drive below 80KM/H or 10KM/H. A Bank Manager who is a client of ours lost all his teeth after a road accident and although we paid him compensation to fix his teeth, we doubt he can ever chew meet again. I see people lose their limbs from road accidents and no matter the compensation they receive, they can never be restored to their former state.”

Speaking at the Happy Development Dialogues hosted by Happy98.9FM’s Don Prah on the theme; ‘Road Safety: A Stakeholders Dialogue on Ensuring Safety on Our Roads’, Mr. Boateng shared, that most people purchase insurance because they fear the Police. “Although insurance is compulsory, it cannot save your life,” he cautioned.

He reiterated that claims are never enough to restore the road accident victims to their former self, “so you better take responsible of your life whenever you hit the road. It is true we sell polices and all but you need to put your life first and take charge of it. Always tell yourself the cars and roads can be dangerous if you drive carelessly.”

Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) has dedicated the months of November and December to sharing educative and informative discussions on all issues that focus on road safety and automobiles. The campaign has Donewell Insurance as main partner with supporting partners as CFAO Motors Ghana Ltd., Loyalty Insurance and Johanni Auto Cool Ltd. and Ghanaweb as a media partner.
