HASAG Threatens Strike, Gives FWSC June 23 Deadline to Resume Talks

The Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana (HASAG) has issued a firm ultimatum to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), warning of a possible nationwide strike if stalled negotiations on their conditions of service do not resume by Monday, June 23, 2025.

In a letter signed by National President Emmanuel Dennis Kofi Amoah, HASAG said it would “activate all lawful steps,” including industrial action, should FWSC fail to return to the negotiation table.

Negotiations, which began in November 2023, have now been dormant for more than eight months. HASAG accuses the FWSC of ignoring repeated written requests to resume talks describing the delay as deliberate sabotage.

“The silence and inaction from FWSC violate Article 13(i) and (ii) of the Standing Negotiating Committee (SNC) Rules,” the statement read.

HASAG further noted that the prolonged delay is demoralizing its members, some of whom have defected to the Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) a union that began negotiations later but has already concluded talks and secured benefits for its members.

The Association has petitioned the National Labour Commission (NLC) and is calling on the Ministries of Finance, Health, and Employment and Labour Relations to intervene.

While emphasizing its commitment to peaceful resolution, HASAG insists it will not hesitate to take lawful industrial action if its June 23 deadline is ignored.
