The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to establish a tomato processing factory in his constituency to support local farmers.
In a viral video sighted by Happyghana.com, the MP lamented the plight of tomato farmers, particularly in Agogo, who struggle to find buyers despite recording bumper harvests.
He explained that although the Minister for Agriculture, Eric Opoku, and his deputy, John Dumelo, recently visited the constituency and distributed 1,000 bags of fertilizer to support farmers, the challenge of market access remains unresolved.
According to him, a bag of tomatoes currently sells at GH₵500, yet farmers are unable to attract buyers.
Mr. Frimpong stressed that the establishment of a tomato processing factory would not only provide a ready market for farm produce but also create employment opportunities and help reduce unemployment in the area.
He further encouraged buyers across the country to visit Agogo for quality and fresh tomatoes, which he described as the best in Ghana.
The MP pleaded with President Mahama to “have mercy” on his constituents by setting up a factory that will transform the fortunes of tomato farmers in Asante Akim North.
