A serious accident on the Accra–Achimota highway brought traffic to a standstill early Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.
Two cargo trucks, travelling in opposite directions, collided head-on just at the entrance ramp at Ofankor, one from Pokuase heading toward Accra, and the other moving toward Pokuase. The impact was so severe that one of the trucks split into two.
Eyewitnesses said one driver escaped unhurt and was later seen trying to salvage diesel from the wreckage. The situation worsened when another motorist, attempting to bypass the crash site, got stuck and blocked the main access road—intensifying the traffic jam.
Preliminary reports suggest that one of the drivers may have either fallen asleep behind the wheel or swerved to dodge a pothole.
Personnel from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate rushed to the scene and began directing traffic. Meanwhile, authorities are working to tow the damaged vehicles and ease the congestion.
