Hollard Insured: Drivers reap more benefits from insurance when they observe road regulations – ACP Tandoh (Rtd)

ACP Rtd. Victor Tandoh has stated that most drivers in Ghana, mainly commercial drivers, have little education on insurance policies and their benefits.
Speaking at the recently held H.Insured Streetwise Financial Literacy series organised by Hollard Insurance at the Kaneshie transport station, he said:

“Most of our drivers have little education on the benefits of insurance policies. They perceive that insurance companies don’t give them their claims in times of problem. But there are some rules you need to observe. Let’s say your car’s capacity is 15 passengers, but you neglect that and take 16; when there’s a situation, who will the insurance cover and who will be left out? So, first, drivers must always work by the laws. If the insurance company has licensed the vehicle for 15 people or passengers, ensure you go by that.”

ACP Rtd. Victor Tandoh, an experienced former Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) under the Ghana Police Service, admonished commercial drivers to monitor the validity of their insurance policies before they drove and cautioned against drink-driving.
“You also need always to confirm the validity of your insurance policy because once your insurance expires, it is not advisable to drive the car. These are some of the important things when we meet drivers like this, we educate them on”.

“You’re not allowed to drink and drive. When you do, and there’s an accident, and it’s proven that you were drunk driving, the insurance company can’t come to your aid even if they want to,” he added.

This edition of the Hollard Insured Streetwise Financial Literacy Series under the theme, “Making Insurance Relevant to Commercial Drivers”, aimed at demystifying insurance for commercial drivers and educating them on the significance of insurance.

Victor Tandoh also applauded Hollard Insurance for the initiative, stating it was a conversation that needed to be had.

The event, which was held on the 12th of August, 2022, had critical stakeholders in the commercial transport industry such as Richard Amankwah, Deputy General Secretary, GPRTU of TUC, Gustav Bruce, Business Development Manager at Hollard Insurance, Charles Ashong Dankyi from the NIC and ACP Victor Tandoh (RTD).
