MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Dancehall artiste Samini has stated that he deserves the Artiste of the Decade plaque at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) scheduled to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre on May 18.

Other musicians eyeing the Artiste of the Decade prize are Becca, Efya, Joe Mettle, No Tribe, Okyeame Kwame, R2Bees, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy.

Speaking at the VGMA Experience Concert which came off at the Black Star Square on Saturday, May 11, Samini said he stood tall among all the artistes he is competing with.

“I have been around for more than a decade and I have been relevant. Ever since I dropped Linda in 2006 till now, I have constantly come out with good songs and I think I deserve to win the Artiste of the Decade,” he explained.

To Samini, the achievements he has chalked since hitting the limelight distinguishes him from the rest of the nominees.

Apart from the Artiste of the Decade, Samini has been nominated in Album of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year categories and he says he winning all of them.

“I am winning all the four nominations because I deserve them all. I have worked hard for all and I am winning all on the night of the awards,” he said.

Samini won the Best African Act at the 2006 MOBO Awards and has since won several awards including Gifted Reggae Dancehall Video Artiste in 2011, Kwame Nkrumah Award (Artiste Of The Year) at the Bass Awards, Best Performer at the MTV Africa Music Awards among others.
