I’m ready to play in Ghana – John Mensah

Former Black Stars skipper, John Mensah, says he will be open to a move to a local club should he recover fully from his injury woes which have kept him out of action for a long time.
Mensah, who is yet to play active football after his contract with Swedish side, AFC Eskilstuna, ended last year, did not rule out the possibility of playing in the Ghana Premier League but was focused on fighting for full recovery first.
When asked about his next possible destination, the former Lyon and Sunderland defender told the Graphic Sports yesterday that his main focus now was to return to action first before thinking of which club to join.
“I won’t say no to playing in the local league although I haven’t thought of that. As at now, my main focus is to recover fully from my injury problems.
“I don’t have any preferred destination because I have to start training for the clubs to see me and then bid for me before I can decide on where to move to,” he said.
Thirty-five-year-old Mensah’s declaration might generate interest from some of the big guns in the Premier League such as Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars who will be willing to monitor him closely.
Aduana and Kotoko, especially, will be better off with the rich experience of the stalwart defender to strengthen their defence ahead of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns respectively.
Mensah’s participation in the local league could revive interest in the top flight, considering his exposure in Europe and with the Black Stars at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups in Germany and South Africa respectively.
