Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has assured Ghanaians, particularly relatives of the girls kidnapped in Takoradi, that the police are making progress in efforts at rescuing the three girls.

He said the police are on top of the issue, noting that they have arrested another suspect in addition to the first one, Samuel Wills, who is currently standing trial for kidnapping and breaking jail.

Even though Mr Dery did not give details on the new leads for security reasons, he maintained that the Police were on course.

He was however not sure when the police will be able to find and rescue the girls who are currently being held hostage by the kidnappers.
Pressure has in the last week been mounting on the Police to find and rescue the girls who were kidnapped between August and December last year.

Since last week, the Police CID and some government officials have been giving assurances to the family members of the kidnapped girls that the victims are alive and being held hostage within the country.

But when the Interior Minister was asked on Tuesday when the girls were likely to be rescued, he retorted that he is not a prophet, but said his outfit is committed to bring some good results.

“I’m an Interior minister, I’m not a prophet; I don’t lay any clairvoyance. What I can assure you is the commitment to really investigate the matter and get to the bottom,” he told journalists. The minister expressed optimism, stating

“the Ghana Police has what it takes; the professionalism is there”.
He gave the public his word that they will give off their best to make sure they bring relief to the families of the kidnapped girls and the entire Ghanaian public. He urged all to have confidence in system.

“We have a police that is committed. We have an interior minister working under a president that is clear and consistent about what he does and delivers. Ghana should have confidence in the system,” he noted.
