The President of Accident support Ghana, Cyril Crabbe Benedict has called on the government to include road safety education in the educational curriculum to help children be abreast with safety precaution related to road accidents as they grow to reduce its menace.

According to him, the country has not yet understood the benefits of road safety education and for that matter the country should go back into their books and let everybody understand that the entire country needs a holistic reorientation with regards to road safety.

In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy 98.9 FM’s Morning Show, the President emphasized that if the education on road safety is taught in schools, children will grow with the knowledge and awareness as they climb the academic ladder. He added that this will help curb rampant road accidents.

In some advanced countries like Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan and others, they educate their children on road safety so as and when they are growing, nobody tells them what to do whenever they find themselves in a vehicle especially with the wearing of seat belts”.

“Children in advance countries know that at a certain age, they are not supposed to sit at the front side of a vehicle unlike Ghana”.

He appealed to the national road safety authority to rethink it’s advocacy plan and map up strategies to educate the public and most importantly children on road safety.
