MPs who created disorder in parliament must be punished as citizens - Lawyer

The former President of Ghana and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has condemned the use of the Military in civil democratic processes.

“The recent use of the military in civil democratic processes has become a major worry & gives the impression that this admin is continually seeking to resurrect the exorcised ghosts of our military past,” he tweeted.

This follows the storming of the floor of parliament by some armed Military men after chaos broke on the floor of Parliament as to how the election of Speaker of Parliament should be done.

There was chaos and pandemonium in Parliament when some members of the NDC climbed onto the dais and slammed the erected Electoral Commission booth for the voting of the Speaker of Parliament.

John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the newly sworn-in Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin but has called for Parliament to investigate the incident of ballot paper snatching by Tema West MP Carlos Ahenkorah.

“Congratulations Rt. Hon. Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin on your election as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.”

“Parliament must conduct an investigation into the two incidents and exact appropriate sanctions. Congratulations to the leadership of the NDC Caucus and the Caucus members for your dedication and commitment,” he added.
