Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Campaign Spokesperson and Special Aide to NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is attempting to sway rural voters with items like salt and kerosene.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 29, Mogtari claimed these handouts are intended to influence rural communities ahead of the 2024 general elections.

She criticized the NPP’s approach, asserting that the ruling party is sidestepping discussions on the economic challenges facing the nation.

Mahama’s aid also argued that, rather than tackling pressing issues affecting Ghanaians, the NPP is relying on short-term incentives to win over vulnerable rural communities.

In her post, she urged rural voters to see these gestures as superficial efforts to secure support without sincere plans to address their needs.

She highlighted that these material gifts fail to address the broader hardships many Ghanaians face due to current economic conditions.

Her post read, “Dear voter, we are currently working in Ghana’s most rural constituencies where most of you have probably never visited. In these communities, the former whiz kid #Bawumuliar and his corrupt aficionados are no longer preaching economics or offering real bold solutions to our hardships and poverty and yes poverty here is real, lack of infrastructure and even basic health facilities and yet they are offering little innocuous inducements, salt, pepper, kerosene, Maggie cubes etc in return for votes.
Please don’t sit on the fence and watch this, injustice, remember that your vote will matter and will certainly make a difference. Vote wisely.
