Judgment Day: Palmer Vs GFA, All await the verdict

Judgment Day: Palmer Vs GFA, All await the verdict

The Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) will today, Tuesday, August 4, announce the ruling on the case between Wilfred Osei Palmer and Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Palmer was disqualified from the GFA Presidential race based on the fact that he did not pay 10 per cent of Joseph Paintsil’s transfer fee to Belgian side Genk.

He protested and marched to CAS in October 2019 to seek justice.

CAS originally scheduled July 17 to settle the score but the verdict was pushed to August 4.

August 4 is here and Palmer and the GFA have their hearts in their mouths as to who will come out victorious.

Judgement Day?

Tomorrow is definitely a big day in the history of our football. I know some have tried to play down the impact the ruling will have on the future of the game, that’s fine.

The real impact will be felt tomorrow when Court of Arbitration for Sports pronounces judgement on the impasse between Winfred Kwaku Osei (Palmer)and the Ghana Football Association.

So here is the gist, Palmer is seeking for 4 reliefs in his application ( reliefs posted below) .In my opinion, there can be only 3 possible outcomes: 1- That all the claimant’s reliefs are granted.

2- That CAS dismisses all the reliefs sought by the claimant and finally the third possible outcome, the reliefs are granted in parts. Each one of these possibilities has it own ramification.

If all 4 reliefs are granted, we head into re-elections. If the reliefs are granted in part, Palmer’s integrity restored but can only contest the next elections and now the final outcome will be that Palmers ambitions of leading the FA is gone forever and the status quo remains, Kurts will still be President of the FA.

May our football be the ultimate winner regardless of the judgement.

What will happen if Palmer wins the case?

Should Palmer win, the GFA Presidential election will be held again and just maybe he will triumph.

If he doesn’t win the case, Kurt Okraku will still be President of the GFA and carry on with his duties.

All await the verdict.
