E-commerce has become a game-changer, offering unparalleled convenience and transforming the way we shop. From the comfort of our homes, we can browse a vast selection of products, compare prices, and have them delivered straight to our doorsteps. This revolution has empowered millions by granting them easier access to a wider range of goods and services.

However, a significant portion of the population, particularly those residing in rural areas, still lack access to these e-commerce benefits. This digital gap hinders economic opportunities for rural consumers, limiting their ability to get quality products at the best prices.

At Jumia, ensuring that everyone in Ghana, regardless of location, enjoys the convenience and accessibility of e-commerce is the goal. To bridge this digital divide, the company focuses on several initiatives, particularly its “City Activation Drive.” This initiative focuses on expanding services to secondary cities and rural communities across Ghana.

Understanding that digital literacy levels may vary in rural areas, Jumia has recruited JForce Agents (local independent sales consultants) who will act as our representatives in these communities. These Jumia representatives build trust through personalized interactions and word-of-mouth marketing, empowering rural customers to embrace e-commerce with confidence.

Furthermore, Jumia’s city activation drive goes beyond sales representatives. The company has established a network of pick-up stations strategically located throughout Ghana, ensuring easy access for customers in even the most remote areas. This eliminates geographical limitations and allows everyone to conveniently receive their online purchases. Additionally, Jumia partners with reliable logistics providers to ensure fast and efficient deliveries across the country.

According to Temidayo Ojo, CEO of Jumia Ghana, “E-commerce can be a real solution for consumers, especially in rural areas where there is limited access to retail. We have seen more Ghanaians in these regions adopt e-commerce to cater to their shopping needs. At Jumia, we want to ensure that we bring the most relevant categories and brands to these consumers.”

Following the success of the city activation drive in areas like Tamale, Ho, Cape Coast, Axim, Mamponteng,Hohoe,Mankessim,Akatsi,Suhum,Komenda,Walewale,Bolgatanga,Techiman,Kintampo,Goaso and Agona Swedru, the company remains committed to extending its services to other towns and communities in Ghana. This expansion reflects Jumia’s dedication to ensuring that no Ghanaian community is left behind in the digital age.

Jumia Ghana recognizes the importance of fostering economic growth and creating job opportunities within the communities it serves. The city activation drive goes beyond providing e-commerce access; it empowers local economies. Through the Jumia sales consultant program, the company is generating employment opportunities for Ghanaians across the country. These local representatives play a crucial role in educating consumers about the benefits of e-commerce and unlocking the potential of rural entrepreneurship.

Jumia’s city activation drive is a testament to its commitment to inclusive economic growth and digital transformation in Ghana. By leveraging innovative solutions and building strong partnerships, Jumia is ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the e-commerce revolution.
