A section of the Coalition of Women Associations has commended the Ghana Police Service for the remarkable progress made in the ongoing investigations into the murder of Level 400 KNUST student, Ms. Joana Deladem Yabani.

Speaking to the press, the leader of the Coalition commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akufo Dampare for the efforts being made to bring the perpetrator(s) of this grave act to justice. “We would like to say a big thank you to the IGP. As we gather, a lot of investigations are going on into this particular matter. We would like to say a big thank you to the IGP for the swift nature in which the arrest and everything in this matter has so far gone.”

One Daniel Tuffour was brought in by the police as a suspect and is currently in police custody after facing the court, which granted a request for remand. Tuffour is scheduled to reappear in court on March 17, 2025.

Leader of the Coalition, Odelia Amoateng, noted that the Coalition seeks to rally the support of other women’s organizations as they fight against the mutilation and abuse of women, as it threatens the future of women and their independence. “We have information from various women associations that wanted to participate in this particular conversation, which we would have us petition to the IGP to tell the rest of the country and the world that this should not happen to anybody.”
