Presidential hopeful and former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has officially filed his nomination at the party’s headquarters today, August 26, 2025 urging fellow aspirants to elevate the political discourse and focus on substantive national issues.
Speaking in an interview with Happy Kaseɛbɔ, Mr. Agyepong emphasized his commitment to integrity and principle, drawing on his long-standing record in public service, including his tenure as Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
“I’ve always led with integrity. My campaign is not about personalities, it’s about the issues that matter to Ghanaians,” he stated.
Agyepong challenged his competitors to participate in a public debate, arguing that party delegates and the broader electorate deserve to hear clear policy positions from all candidates.
He expressed concern over what he described as a “poisoned atmosphere” in the political space and called for a return to democratic ideals that inspire the youth.
Highlighting his deep roots in the party, Agyepong recalled his role in the 1992 campaign for Professor Adu Boahen, positioning himself as a custodian of the NPP’s historical legacy.
“I was the only one among us who was there in 1992 campaigning for Professor Adu Boahen. That gives me institutional memory and a duty to protect our tradition,” he said.
He also took a firm stance against the influence of money in politics, insisting that principles and virtues not financial power should guide the party’s future.
Agyepong noted that unlike other aspirants, he was not part of the previous administration, presenting himself as a fresh alternative for the party’s leadership.
“If the party wants a departure from the past, a new era, a new vision then I represent that change,” he declared.
With his nomination now filed, Agyepong is expected to intensify his outreach to delegates across the country, promoting what he describes as a values-driven and visionary campaign.
