Kwesi Appiah has bid farewell to Ghana as he sets off to take on the role of head coach for the Sudanese national team.

Appiah, also Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), received permission from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to pursue this exciting opportunity while still involved with the club.

On October 9, the former Ghana international, along with Fatau Dauda and Ignatius Osei-Fosu, departed Ghana for his new venture. Dauda, another former Ghana international, will serve as the goalkeeper’s trainer, while Osei-Fosu will take on the role of assistant coach.

Appiah, aged 64, is anticipated to sign a three-year contract with a reported monthly salary of approximately $50,000, as per HappySports sources. The official unveiling of Kwesi Appiah will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the team is currently based due to unrest in Sudan.

In his new position, Appiah has been entrusted with the task of rejuvenating Sudanese football. He will also assume the role of General Manager for all national teams, including coaching the Sudan Olympic Team. Notably, Appiah is not a stranger to Sudanese football, having previously served as the head coach of Al Khartoum in December 2014. During his tenure, he made significant strides in improving the team’s performance, securing a fourth-place league finish and CAF Confederation Cup qualification.

Kwesi Appiah’s coaching career also includes a noteworthy stint as the head coach of the Ghana national team from 2017 to 2020. Furthermore, in addition to his new role, he will serve as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Kwesi Appiah’s legacy is firmly cemented in Ghanaian football, particularly for leading the national team to qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
