Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has assured workers that the government’s planned takeover of the Damang Mine will not lead to job losses.
He stated that all existing contracts will be honoured and no staff will be displaced during the transition, adding that measures have been put in place to ensure stability and prevent unrest among workers.
The Minister gave the assurance on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, during a working visit to the mine, where he led Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources to assess preparations ahead of the takeover.
The current lease held by Gold Fields is set to expire on April 18.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah noted that the directive reflects the commitment of John Dramani Mahama to protect workers and ensure continuity in operations.
He emphasised that the transition will be carried out in an orderly manner to avoid disruptions, safeguard the safety of miners, and guarantee the security of existing employment contracts.
