Learn to parent; it is an art – College of Counseling and Psychology

Rev. Professor Samuel Oheneba Dornyo, President of the College of Counseling and Psychology, has disclosed that parenting is an art that should be learned.

According to him, everyone is different including parents, hence, their style of training their children will vary as well.

He told Rev Nyansa Boakwa on Happy 98.9FM’s Nsem Pii, “We can all arrive at the same destination using different approaches and that is the art of parenting. It is learning new skills to train our children.”

They emphasized that while some parents have very high expectations of their children to the extent that if the children do not meet their requirements, they get disappointed, others also just leave their children to make their own decisions.

He went on to add that, parenting involves time and patience “and if one does not have these, they should not consider being parents.”

He advised parents to make it a point to learn the art of parenting. “It’s an art everyone needs to learn. All parents should come together for a seminar or conference to learn more about this art. Churches and public institutions should organize events to enlighten their staff who are parents on how to train their children.”
