John Dramani Mahama, Former President and Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claims that the overwhelming acceptance of his 24-hour economy proposal has thrown the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into disarray.

The NDC recently convened a national policy dialogue at the Peduase Lodge primarily focusing on scrutinizing their policy proposals, particularly the 24-hour economy initiative, to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian populace.

In his address to the gathering on Friday, February 23, Mahama sharply criticized the NPP’s campaign team for launching attacks against his proposal. He accused the NPP of resorting to calumny and disinformation in response to the popularity of his policy idea.

“The widespread acceptance of the 24-hour policy appears to have sent the NPP campaign into a tailspin, leading to a frantic effort to attack it through calumny and disinformation in the last few days,” Mahama noted.

He further indicated that his long-standing promises, including reducing the size of government and implementing significant governance reforms, have forced the NPP to adopt similar pledges despite their role in what he described as “poor governance.”

Mahama took aim at his opponent, Vice President Bawumia, accusing him of attempting to evade responsibility for the country’s economic challenges. He highlighted his record of accountability during his tenure as Vice President and President, contrasting it with what he deemed as Bawumia’s failure to take responsibility for the current state of affairs.

“Not only do I have a much better and measurable performance record in both my role as Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team, and later as President, than my leading contender in this year’s elections, I also have a record of taking responsibility. The same cannot be said of my opponent,” Mahama added.
