Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced plans to create 2,000 permanent jobs through a coconut husk recycling initiative, aimed at both empowering youth and promoting an eco-friendly environment.

“These husks that are spotted in various areas of Accra after the content is consumed will be used to create jobs while saving the environment,” Basintale stated in a social media post.

You see this here, they are called Coconut husks!. The left over after enjoying your coconut milk or juice that liters the city.

This afternoon I shall be creating 2,000 permanent jobs from it while saving the environment😊

The announcement forms part of YEA’s broader mandate to coordinate employment opportunities and sustain jobs for Ghanaian youth.

Key public partnerships included the recruitment of 12,000 Community Police Assistants, 5,000 Prisons Assistants, and ongoing training for Fire Service Assistants. YEA also signed an MoU to recruit 3,000 Arabic teachers for the Islamic Education Unit.

The agency also partnered with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to launch the Work Abroad Programme in March, opening pathways for Ghanaian youth to access international jobs in hospitality, agriculture, and construction.

Basintale’s bold declaration has left many netizens on edge, with his statement’s last words, “watch out,” sparking widespread anticipation. The remark has since fueled online buzz, with some Ghanaians applauding the initiative and others indifferent.

What really liters the city is plastic waste Mister.
That is what you should be looking at, not something which is biodegradable.
You see the state of our beaches!
Misplaced priority, while real problems lurks.
Plastic waste is our problem!
