Medeama Board chairman Dr Toni Aubynn expects the club to compete favourably in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League campaign after signing a mouthwatering $300,000 sponsorship with mining giants Goldfields Ghana.

The Mauve and Yellows have received the financial cushion ahead of the start of the new season on November 13.

The $300,000  a year for the two-time FA Cup holders has been hailed in the West African nation due to the financial struggles of several Premier League clubs.

This is the biggest sponsorship in club history for a season in Ghana, eclipsing powerhouses Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

And Medeama board chairman Dr Toni Aubynn admits to the weight of expectation on the team but insists the team will compete well in the upcoming season.

“This is massive for us and we are grateful to Goldfields Ghana for their continuous support,” he told the media at Tuesday’s press conference

“It also comes with an expectation on the team and we intend to surmount the challenge. We have been tasked to win either the league or the FA Cup and that’s what we will start working on.

“If we continue to be successful, we are confident Goldfields will continue to support us as they have done over the past 12-years.

Medeama board chairman, Dr. Toni Aubynn, who doubles as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association,  led the massive sponsorship talks with the mining powerhouse who has been a significant backbone for the two-time FA Cup holders over the years.

The Executive Vice President and Head of GoldFields in West Africa, Alfred Baku, who has been a huge driving force behind the Tarkwa-based side, delivered the keynote address.

The giants mining firm has been instrumental in the rapid rise of Medeama over the past 10-years, spending thousands of dollars to steer the club’s Africa inter-club campaign on two occasions in 2014 and 2016.

Goldfields has handed over the Akoon park to the club for temporal use following the closure of the Tarkwa NA Aboso park.

The mining firm is already constructing a $13m 10,000 seater capacity stadium for the club amid a sustained sponsorship to make the team unbeatable in the West African nation.
