Meet the vivacious Akua Sika, the Kumasi bred radio presenter taking Accra by storm

Veronica Napoleon, affectionately referred to as Akua Sika, is the host of the latest show on Happy 98.9 FM “Happy Evening Drive”. She had her basic education at Kings International School and later to Kenyasi D/A Junior High School. She continued her Senior High School education at Kings College in Kumasi. Akua Sika was trained in radio and television at Ask Media Institute.

Her first day as host of ‘Happy Evening Drive’ confirmed Akua Sika’s description of herself as an energetic and lively person.

‘’I am known for being a positive force, and always light up the space I find myself with so much happiness,’’ an assertion the millions who tuned in to Happy 98.9 FM on the 2nd of January experienced.
The radio presenter remembers her bittersweet childhood. ‘’Growing up my childhood was sweet and tough at the same time and there were as well good and bad days,’’ she said.

Akua Sika has over seven years experience in radio and television practice. She believes she was born vocal and calls it a “talent polished into a skill”. ‘’Basically, I am one of the lucky people who gets paid to do what I love doing.’’

Generally, she is motivated by professional growth. Looking back at how far God has brought her, it keeps her motivated that the future is brighter and better than she can ever imagine. She doubts that there will be a change in career along the way, but: “Never say never; time will tell,” she says.

Her values in life are prayer, humility and getting the job done either the hard way or the smart way. The radio presenter is a Christian. Out of 100 percent, she considers herself to be 99 percent religious, with the missing one percent being her not wanting to blow her own horn.

Akua Sika says she is both an introvert and an extrovert depending on the situation. She can be all out when necessary, but also all silent and alone at times. Her favorite pastime is watching comical movies. In her leisure time, she either listens to radio or goes sightseeing. She loves adventures. Napoleon has very few people that make her social life – her family and two best friends. The rest are her online “acquaintances”. Still, she believes that people should socialize, be it with family, friends or sometimes even strangers. In her opinion, everyone needs to receive as well as give out love.
Akua Sika does not have a favorite food – “Everything goes.’’ She is very fashion conscious. In her view, appearance counts a lot because it scores you points even before any interaction and it builds one’s confidence. She finds it important to wear the right attire at the right place and at the right time.

The radio presenter coaches colleagues to excellence and gives them opportunities to excel by guiding them down the career path. She thinks that bosses are to teach and navigate subordinates to achieve targets respectfully.
In the next five years, Akua Sika hopes to be alive and blessed to see her name written alongside achievers in the communication industry in Ghana, Africa and beyond. One of the challenges she faces as a corporate executive is being amongst old folks. She says that this exerts pressure on her to prove that she is equally qualified and can do the job.
She loves the attention that comes with the job – whether good or bad. She believes that it only means she is doing something worth their while enough to catch their attention. She doesn’t call attention givers fans, she calls them family.

Every upgrade or ascension in her life is a success story to Akua Sika, but her major achievement is gaining wings to fly from her mama’s house at the young age of 17, never looking back and climbing the ladder of her chosen career up each and every day.
The radio presenter defines success as being able to attain something you never thought you could. Her expectations for the year 2023 are to be alive, healthy, happy and successfully play her part to impact the Happy FM brand positively on air and off air.

If she could be any animal, Akua Sika would not want to be an animal at all. Instead, she would rather be a tree enjoying a cool breeze somewhere in America.
Her advice to the young ones is to be resilient and be goal getters. “Nothing comes on a silver platter. There is nothing like free lunch. There will be a reward of harvesting only after sowing and watering the plants,” she says.
