The Minority in Parliament is calling for the Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, to take part in the debate on the 2025 Budget scheduled for next Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

The request was made by the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah, on Friday, March 14, 2025 during the presentation of the business statement for the upcoming week in Parliament.

Mr. Boamah highlighted the Vice President’s vast experience in the education sector and argued that this expertise should be reflected in the government’s economic and financial policies.

He stressed that her contributions would provide valuable perspectives, given her qualifications and background. Referencing Act 111 of the Constitution, Mr. Boamah noted that it grants the Vice President the right to engage in parliamentary proceedings.

He emphasized that under this provision, the Vice President should be afforded the same privileges as an MP, except for holding a parliamentary office.

“Mr. Speaker, realised the business committee has made allocation for ministers of state, leaving out the Vice President of the Republic, who has been very, very quiet. It will be very very important to see her in action on the floor to debate the President’s economic and financial policy, especially having been a former minister for education,” he said.

Mr. Boamah called on the Business Committee to revise the Business Statement to allow time for the Vice President to participate in the debate, underscoring the significance of her involvement, especially as the country’s first female Vice President, who has sworn an oath to partake in such proceedings.
