President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has made significant changes to his cabinet, a move that has been met with criticism from the minority in Parliament. The reshuffle, conducted in accordance with Article (78) (79) (256) of the 1992 constitution, has stirred controversy within the political landscape of Ghana.

In an official document forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for Parliamentary approval, the list of ministers and their deputies was presented. The Speaker, in turn, directed Parliament’s leadership to review the list, particularly the Appointment Committee, to ensure thorough vetting of the nominees.

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for the Elembelle constituency and Deputy Minority Leader, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the President’s reshuffle.

He labeled it as “dead on arrival,” emphasizing that it was long overdue. Buah pointed out that both the people of Ghana and even members of President Akufo-Addo’s own party were aware of underperforming ministers, yet the President had turned a deaf ear to their concerns.

The criticism from the minority highlights public outcry and growing discontentment with the government’s handling of ministerial appointments and performance evaluations.
