Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has described the recent controversy surrounding the signing of the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a “needless self-embarrassment,” insisting there was no error in the document.
In a statement, Aboagye clarified that the committee circulated copies of the MoU to all aspirants on Sunday, January 18, 2026, including Kennedy Agyapong, Joojo Rocky, Charles Bissue, and Dr. Bawumia, with additional copies sent to members of Bawumia’s team.
He emphasized that all aspirants were fully aware of the MoU’s contents ahead of the signing ceremony.
He explained that the controversy arose solely from Ken Agyapong’s refusal to sign the MoU unless Clause 2 was removed or altered to suit him personally.
Clause 2, which addresses acceptance of the results of the party’s January 31, 2026 Presidential Primary, reads:
“We commit to accepting the results of the January 31, 2026, Presidential Primary of the Party, and we will respect the outcome, irrespective of the result. We further reiterate and pledge to accept the outcome as a valid, authentic, and binding expression of the will of the Delegates and the collective decision of the Party”, he stated.
According to Aboagye, PEC insisted that Clause 2 was the most important section of the MoU and could not be altered.
He noted that Ken Agyapong’s request was a personal one, not evidence of any error, and stressed that if every aspirant tried to amend the MoU to their preference, no pact signing would have been possible.
“The Chairman and Secretary of the PEC have both clarified that there was no error in the MoU,” the statement said. “You cannot publicly embarrass yourself in such a dramatic fashion and try to hide under the cover of error.”
Miracles Aboagye urged party members to scrutinize the document rather than speculate, emphasizing that disputes over acceptance of results should not put the party in a negative light.
