Commercial drivers of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) are livid about the introduction of the new digital license by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Whereas the Vice national chairman of GPRTU, Robert Sabbah says commercial drivers are being educated and sensitized on the use of the new digital license.
The commercial drivers are also singing a different song on the introduction of novelty.  A couple of weeks ago, DVLA introduced a digital license to ward off the activities of ‘Goro boys’ in the acquisition of license in the country and per the new model driver’s license will now be acquired online.
When this reporter visited the Tema Station lorry terminal the situation was different as the commercial drivers told this reporter there has not been any education on the digital license since the announcement was made.
Kofi Tawiah, also told this reporter that they are agitated about the introduction of the new license and national executives of the association seem quite on the issue.
Zakaria Mohammed said ‘as a branch chairman I have not seen anybody come here with the intent of educating us on the new license’
When this reporter contacted the Greater Accra Regional chairman of GPRTU, Emmanuel Ankrah he said his office has not seen any letter from National secretariat indicating a education campaign for members on the new license.
‘I cannot lie to you if I have seen any letter from the National secretariat urging the educational campaign for members on the new digital license by DVLA’.
According to him, on daily basis he has members walking to his office complaining about the introduction of the new digital license.
