The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo has attributed his failure to compete in the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections to a ‘Mafia game’.

According to him, his successive disqualification was an attempt by the then electoral commissioners to rid him of his destiny to lead the country.

In an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show hosted by Afrifa-Mensah, he said, “I was disqualified by Afari Gyan and Charlotte Osei, then Electoral Commissioners in 2012 and 2016 respectively. They claimed I filled my forms with wrong regional codes but it was a mafia game.”

Kofi Akpaloo added that he filled his forms all right and correctly but was suprised these past EC chairs behaved that way and unjustly disqualified him.

On his authority, the past EC chairpersons also claimed individuals who signed his nomination forms had also endorsed the forms of another presidential candidate which was against EC protocols. “Those who endorsed my forms said they never endorsed Gyataba’s forms. They didn’t even know him, so where from the double endorsements?” he queried.

“It was a mafia game,” he reiterated. But he disclosed that he did not further pursue the matter because he knew it was not the right time “for me.” And even if he became a president back then, he could not have achieved anything.

The politician however stated in clear terms that this year was the right time for him. ” It’s a calling and I have been called and this is my time to win the presidential seat.”
